Heart of the Unicorn

This piece was done in graphite, with the background done in black conte. I am not sure how many hours I spent on it, though... ^_^ I used references where I could for shadow and pose only, and most of that was self-taken photos haha.


This piece was inspired by one of my favorite movies, "The Last Unicorn." At the end, the Unicorn says that she will always be different from the other unicorns because she has loved and regretted. I skimmed through the book and read the description of Lady Amalthea, then decided on how I saw her. The idea is that Lady Amalthea is supposed to be ethereal, as she is no longer existing outside of the Unicorn, so I tried to make her a little transparent to reflect that. In the book, Molly had mentioned how she wasn't very good with silk and thread, so I wanted to keep the dress as simple as possible to reflect this as well.
